All the pottery on this
page is made with an iron-free "raku" stoneware clay
body and special raku glazes. The pots are fired
to Cone
06
1830°F (999°C) in an oxidation atmosphere then plunged
into garbage cans filled with combustible materials
where they are reduced to create the color of the glazes
and matte black on the exposed clay. These are not
durable pieces and are very fragile because the clay is
not completely vitrified. These pots are suitable
for Decoration ONLY.
This means they should
not come into contact with food or water. They
cannot be washed (just dust with a soft cloth, or if
necessary, lightly rinse - no scouring - in cool water
only) and the colored glazes will fade over time,
especially if they are exposed to direct light.
They are nice for dry flower arrangements, or just for
decoration, but they cannot hold water.
Just using the "common
sense rules" above, these pots should provide years of
joyful use. |
